Revel in unparalleled comfort and world-class luxury at qualia. This Hamilton Island getaway enjoys a secluded location on the northern tip of the island and affords guests sweeping views of the sea. Until qualia there hasn’t been an accommodation in the area that can match the breathtaking and magnificent Great Barrier Reef. And that is definitely a testament to the world-class standards that this amazing accommodation offers.
When it comes to architecture, qualia architect Chris Beckingham made sure to create a serene sanctuary that not only brings the outside in, but also engages the senses. And the result is stunning: a sense of space that is in perfect harmony with the nature that surrounds it. This is evident in the artworks that adorn the walls and the fabrics and patterns used in the furniture. And also unmistakable in the stone and timber used in the pavilions, which are handcrafted from the finest local and imported materials.
The attention to detail doesn’t stop there. The 60 freestanding pavilions are designed to be a refreshing, private escape surrounded by tropical bushland and Eucalypt trees. Stay in any of qualia’s light-filled accommodation and wake up to spectacular sea views every day.
Oriented to the southwest, these pavilions offer dazzling views of Hamilton Island and the Coral Sea. Also, from the spacious rooms, large living areas, and the equally huge adjoining deck shaded by Eucalypts, guests will be able to enjoy the legendary sunsets of Whitsundays. Each of the pavilions feature polished wood floors and timber details. Louvers make it possible for the sea breeze to flow through the rooms, and the subtle colour palette and classy decor lends a relaxed beach house vibe to the accommodation.
If the Leeward Pavilions are oriented southwest, Windward Pavilions face north, which means uninterrupted views of the sea and Whitsundays Island. Like the Leeward, these pavilions also feature louver windows and polished timber floors, a combination that creates a relaxing, home-like ambience. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that natural light filters through the whole accommodation, and a generous 120-square metre floor area guarantees utmost comfort. What makes the Windward a step above are the private sun deck that leads to the divine infinity edged pool.
For the ultimate in luxury, the exclusive Beach House is it. The commodious accommodation–with a whopping 240-square metre floor area–is perfect for a larger but still intimate group. It has two bedrooms, dining space for ten, and a large, 12-metre infinity edge pool. This stylish house features an open plan layout with spaces that flow into each other seamlessly. From anywhere in the living areas, panoramic views of the Whitsundays and the Coral Sea are always available.
The main bedroom has direct access to the pool and the sun deck, and features a lavishly appointed stone bathroom with a bath and separate shower. There is an adjoining guest pavilion, which serves as a second bedroom with its own private deck.
Now, while it would be tempting to spend all of one’s time in these gorgeous, lavish villas there is a world out there to discover. In particular, the Great Barrier Reef is just waiting to be explored, and qualia’s gracious staff are only happy to get you ready for that adventure.
The fun can start at the helm of a yacht or aboard qualia’s 45-foot luxury cruiser, which is for the exclusive use of qualia’s guests. From the property, cruise to a secluded beach, go snorkelling or kayaking, and savour a gourmet lunch. At dusk, the sea is the perfect place to witness the awe-inspiring Whitsundays sunset.
Then there’s nearby Dent Island where guests can tee off at one of the world’s best golf courses, the Hamilton Island Golf Club. Designed by British Open winner Peter Thomson, this is the only championship island golf course in Australia. Access to the golf club from qualia can be via ferry or helicopter.
When not in the mood to stray too far from the property, guests are presented with plenty of options to fill their days with their favourite pleasure. This may include working out in the gym with a personal trainer, reading a book in the library, taking a dip in any of the swimming pools, or relishing a cocktail by the bar.
For a truly relaxing and sensory experience, head to Spa qualia. Situated at the heart of the resort, it is the perfect place to unwind, catch the soft breeze, and take in the serene views. The therapies and treatments offered here have been designed to de-stress, detoxify, and cleanse the body and declutter the mind. Try the signature Bularri Yarrul, a hot-stone massage using ancient, 300-year old stones.
After a day of exploring land or sea and indulging in a revitalising spa treatment, it’s time to satiate your taste buds with qualia’s top-notch cuisine. Inspired by the resort’s location and spectacular scenery, Executive Chef Craig Knudsen ensures every meal that comes out of the kitchen is locally sourced, fresh, and healthy.
The Long Pavilion is best suited for more formal occasions and dinners and is the haute-cuisine option. It regularly hosts culinary events and serves imaginative Australian fare, which includes Tasmanian salmon with whiting and enoki. Before dinner, guests can enjoy an amuse-bouche of tropical fruits–a qualia signature–to tease the palate before embarking on an unparalleled culinary journey complemented by an excellent, sommelier-compiled wine list.
And down the hill, adjacent to the gym and pool, is Pebble Beach where guests can savour a more relaxed and informal meal. The menu is casual and features the vibrant, crisp flavours of the region. There is also a bar that serves chilled cocktails perfect for winding the day down and watching the sunset.
